Long Description: 1911classic.com> Classic Car in France. Louis Renault will be remembered not only for the great cars he produced but also for his patent on the direct-transmission gearbox. He also opened his factory to the Germans in the Second World War, possibly in an effort to save the plant. This resulted, however, in his imprisonment in 1944 and the confiscation of the factory by the government. These two events proved too great a blow for Louis Renault who died the same year.
